There is currently no specific mandatory national environmental standard for Pilates reformers; compliance is assessed based on GB 18584 (formaldehyde in wood products), GB 18401 (safety of textile fabrics), and GB/T 3324 (general technical requirements for furniture). Key indicators include formaldehyde emission ≤0.124 mg/m³, compliance with TVOC limits, and the absence of heavy metal or harmful aromatic amine residues.
Wooden Frame: Formaldehyde emissions must meet GB 18584 limits (typically ≤0.124 mg/m³). Preference should be given to FSC-certified wood and finishes using low-VOC water-based paints or hard-wax oils, while avoiding the excessive use of urea-formaldehyde resin adhesives.
Upholstered Surfaces: Leather or fabric surfaces must meet GB 18401 Class B (direct skin contact) or Class A standards. The use of azo dyes, formaldehyde, and decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amines is prohibited; OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification is recommended.
Metal and Coatings: Electrostatic powder coatings on steel or aluminum frames must comply with the RoHS Directive, restricting heavy metals such as lead, mercury, and cadmium, and must be free from irritating odors.
Adhesives and Assembly: Priority should be given to mechanical fastening or eco-friendly hot-melt adhesive processes. Finished products should exhibit low TVOC emission levels (referencing QB/T limits for upholstered furniture) to avoid prolonged off-gassing after purchase.
